Overview:
Iowa Hawkeye tight ends have been notorious over the past couple of seasons for how they translate to the NFL level. Luke Lachey should be no different. Coming off of an injury, Lachey will look to prove his worth and raise his stock for the draft.
2023 was cut short for Lachey but he still posted 10 receptions and 131 yards, a far cry from his 2022 campaign where he had 28 receptions, 398 yards and four touchdowns.
Lachey will now look to show that the injury was a just a minor setback and be the next Iowa great to hit the league running.
Strengths:
Good arm length and hand size for the position.
Fluid route runner with good feel for sitting down in zones.
Large catch radius.
Natural hands catcher with low drop percentage throughout his career.
NFL Pedigree, his father Jim Lachey was an All-Pro offensive tackle for 10 seasons.
Moldable frame, can put of mass and not lose any mobility or speed.
High IQ player as evidenced by his academic prowess and accolades.
Weaknesses:
Lacks the explosive athleticism that has swept over the modern tight end position.
Needs to improve on blocking, mainly his play strength.
Needs to refine his route tree and releases to be more effective as a pass catcher.
